What Worked?Problems/Questions that EmergedNotes for Next Rehearsal
-we made it to pg 63-having to encourage them to earn it repeatedly
-difficulty for all of us keeping focus and energy; a coffee break did the trick 🙂
-let them be on their feet if it helps them earn it

We were definitely feeling the Sunday Afternoon effects during this rehearsal. I think a combination of us being seated, thinking hard about the play, our future/past obligations, worries about midterms, and the Matilda orchestra practicing next door left us pretty unfocused and distracted. To rescue the rehearsal, I suggested we all take a quick walk to Katora and got something to refuel! Also, I asked if they wanted to be on their feet and they agreed that it’d be helpful! We made it further than my goal of 25 pages, which was really affirming as we’re diving deeper into the text and finding patterns in terms of objectives, ideas, and character! I had to encourage them repeatedly to earn the reaction they were looking for, which hindered our pace to some degree, but restating our goals next rehearsal of having a POV and testing the action on the other will hopefully bring that back into their minds. It also might help to take a minute at the beginning to separate ourselves from the day behind us and the obligations ahead of us, one of our measures of success! I’m eager to see how much progress we make in our next rehearsal. Some new objectives for Oliver that emerged include to punish, to rile up, to obliterate, to support, to uplift, to rally, to nurture. Some new objectives for Bernadette that emerged include to dismiss, to annihilate, to knock down a peg, to undermine, to support, to uplift, to encourage, to motivate.
