What Worked?Problems/Questions that EmergedNotes for Next Rehearsal
-staged pg. 41-57-missing some rehearsal props  -further explore destination for future scenes so they are more developed
-stumbled thru pg. 15-57-some scenes need some attention/investigation as we move back thru

This was the most planning and investigation of destinations/activities that I’ve done of all the blocking rehearsals, and I feel as though this one went most smoothly, and I felt the most comfortable and prepared that I have so far compared to the first day or two of blocking where I had prepared very briefly. I feel confident that if I continue to prepare by exploring possibilities for destination and activities, the rest of blocking will go smoothly and efficiently, and we’ll be able to explore more in depth sooner.

Also, we had a partial stumble through today, and I was nervous that the actors wouldn’t absorb any of the previous work we had done, but they did an amazing job at recalling and exploring the destinations and activities. Some moments felt manufactured or directed, and I feel like preparing for blocking and stimulating the actors to justify their movements is an area of growth for me still. With some of these units, it’s especially hard because the script isn’t particularly revealing in terms of activities and destinations, but I’ve had relative success thus far and the moments that are troubling seem isolated rather than an issue with the staging as a whole. I also noticed that some units, especially those that we staged at the beginning, are very clunky and complicated. It’s even more apparent after our stumble through that going in without enough preparation makes for an unproductive rehearsal and staging that is tough to justify. I think some of it comes down to the actors having books in their hands still and doing the material all together for the first time, but ultimately those sections should be reexamined once we return to them. I’m so excited for the next rehearsal because it’ll be our first in Studio and we can begin working in the space with furniture, props, and costumes!!
