I can’t believe we’re already here! Early in the process, I was almost certain that by now I’d be freaking out about how unfinished and unpolished my work is and nervous out of my mind for people to see it. However, today was extremely affirming for me because we accomplished 2 of our best full runs with tech yet! Everybody was at the top of their game today, especially Ariana and Wiley. Even since yesterday, they have made amazing progress as actors. Today, they were extremely present, listening to each other and earning what they wanted. The work they have put in and thoughtfulness they both have is super understated, and I cannot give them enough credit for leaping in and fully trusting themselves and each other to create a piece that is weird and funny and sad and metaphorical and insightful and so many more things. There is nothing left for me to do except let go of the play tomorrow and let it be what it is, but I feel ready for this moment. After months of hard work, research, self-doubt, stress, but most of all JOY, I’m ready to sit back, take a deep breath, and enjoy what this experience has given me and culminated into. Tonight, I feel for the first time entirely confident that I can and want to make a life for myself doing this type of work.
